We would like you to meet Jack. Jack comes to us from UnderDog Rescue of Florida (Donate, Donate, Donate). Jack apparently was a stray - and was picked up in the Panhandle region of Florida. He was in a high-kill shelter - and not doing too well when he was rescued by Katie who worked very hard to save Jack's little life. She has a farm where she fosters dogs until they are healthy enough to be adopted. Jack recovered enough and was ready to be permanently adopted - so Donna, from Bradenton Underdog Rescue picked him up and brought him down to SW Florida. We met him - on Saturday - February 9th, 2008 - in a Walgreens parking lot - in Ellenton, Fla. Donna said: "Take him today if you want" - We thought about it for 2 minutes, fell in love with his sweetness - and decided he would be a great new member of our family. Of course we did not have any bed, food, dishes, leash, collar, toys, treats, or anything dog related any more. Especially for a little dog like this! So we went directly to Pet Supermarket - and bought the place out. We got him home - settled him in - and he has been doing great ever since. Jack was 3 years old on February 9th, 2009 and is a Jack Russell / unknown mix. He is 21.5 lbs of pure terrier. He is quite a handful - If he is quiet - he is probably up to 'No Good'. He has tons of energy - interspersed with copious amounts of sleep. He loves to chase critters around the yard. Squirrels, Birds, Geckos, Frogs, Toads, Spiders, Crickets - you name it - he chases it. We want to thank our neighbors here in the Towers Plaza - specifically the wonderful ladies at Heartland Health Care. They have welcomed Jack to the neighborhood by showering him with toys, treats, and tons of lovin'. He gets all excited whenever one of the ladies walks through the door. We appreciate all that they have done for us. They were very supportive when Samson went to Heaven - and have been fantastic to Jack when he came into our lives. Thank You - more than you will ever know! On a very serious note: If you want a dog or cat - go to a Rescue. The 'Rescues' do just that - they rescue animals from kill shelters. The dogs we adopted from the rescues are very thankful for being rescued and just turn out to be the very best dogs! We found Jack on Petfinder.com. and we highly recommend you do the same. There is a door into Heaven for people who Rescue pets. There is nobody closer to Heaven than Katie, Donna, and the UnderDog Rescue folks. Please Adopt. If you don't give a pet a chance - who will? ADOPT - ADOPT - ADOPT! Jack has brought a ton of fun and laughter to our lives - and we have only had him since the beginning of February! One last note: A very special THANK YOU to Katie Tener. She single-handedly saved Jack from certain death. The following is an excerpt from her email to me - about how she found Jack (get a tissue): "Thank you, thank you, thank you for all you have done for
him. You would have been shocked to see what he looked like when he came out of
the shelter. We weren't even sure if he would survive the ride home he was so
skinny with an upper respiratory infection. He had given up hope in the shelter
and the light had faded from his eyes. People literally would pass by him, say
what a cute dog, and he would cough. This was all it took for them to dismiss
him so easily. I couldn't, just couldn't, leave him in the shelter that day.
Once they start to cough in the shelters, they tend to put the dogs down. Jack
had no chance there. I held him all the way home from Panama City that day (a
three hour drive to our home). I cried over him and begged him not to give up. I
promised him if he would give life a fighting chance a family would be found for
him that would love him the rest of his days. I'm so glad that promise has come
true! Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for loving him and showing
him the best that life has to offer.
